About this artwork

A bold Flower of Life in orange-red, its overlapping circles cut into black triangles and dotted with yellow at every crossing, sits inside a silver-grey band and a wide ring of fine black-and-white pattern.

The title promises geometry, and the centre delivers it. This is the Flower of Life, a figure of evenly overlapping circles that appears in ancient decorative art across many cultures. Anusuya colours each petal orange-red and fills the gaps with black, so the pattern reads as flowers and triangles at once. Its warm orange is the colour of a monarch's wing, and like a monarch it rules the composition.

Sacred geometry of this kind sits comfortably within mandala practice, where perfect symmetry is a way of picturing order in the universe. Around the centre, a shimmering grey band and rings of fans, petals and dotwork in black fineliner act as the court around the monarch: intricate, but always deferring to the colour at the heart. It is a crisp, modern-looking piece that still carries traditional linework, balancing strict structure with the organic grace of petals.
