About this artwork

Curved bands of tiny triangles in magenta, blue, teal, green, red, orange, yellow and peach spiral out from a single centre point, turning like a wheel in motion.

Chakra means wheel, and the karma chakra is the turning wheel of action and consequence. Anusuya draws it without any black linework at all: every curved band is built from small faceted triangles, each shaded so that the bands look folded, like paper or petals, as they spiral out from the single point where they all meet.

In Indian tradition the wheel is everywhere, from the Ashoka Chakra on the national flag to the Dharma Chakra of Buddhist art, and it always suggests cycles of action, consequence and renewal. The bright sequence of colours makes that idea feel hopeful rather than heavy. With its clean white background and strong sense of motion, the piece suits a modern room that needs energy, or a workspace where a new venture is being built.
