About this artwork

Layers of pointed petals in blue, pink, red, brown, olive and yellow fan out from a small silver sphere, all set on a full disc of metallic gold. It reads like a sunrise seen through stained glass.

Awakening Rays is about the moment light first breaks through. Instead of drawing a literal sun, Anusuya builds the rays from stacked, flame-shaped petals, each colour band overlapping the next so the whole flower seems to push outward from its centre. The gold ground behind it glows like the sky at dawn.

In Indian tradition the rising sun is greeted every morning, through Surya Namaskar and the Gayatri mantra, as a symbol of awakening and clarity, and gold carries a similar meaning of light and auspiciousness. The silver sphere at the core, marked with fine curved lines, acts as the bindu, the point from which everything begins. With no black pattern fields at all, this is one of the boldest, purely colour-driven pieces in the Divine series, and it suits a room that catches the morning light or a space where new ideas are worked on.

Questions about this piece

Is the gold a real metallic colour?

Yes, the background disc is worked in metallic gold, so it catches light differently from the flat colours of the petals. The replica is a giclée/inkjet print, so there the gold appears as printed colour rather than metallic.

Does it arrive ready to hang?

Yes. Every order, original or replica, ships framed in black wood with a glass front and a white mat, about 40 × 53 cm, ready to hang. Shipping is free anywhere in India.
