About this artwork

A single pink lotus in soft watercolour opens against a pale blue oval, framed by a broad green leaf and a lotus seed pod, all set into the heart of a dense black-and-white mandala.

Inner Core Blossoming places the flower where a mandala's centre would usually be. Instead of a geometric point there is a lotus in full bloom with yellow at its heart, a leaf curling behind it and a seed pod beside it: flower, leaf and seed, the life of the plant gathered in one small window of colour.

The lotus opening from the centre outward is one of the oldest images of inner growth in Indian art, often linked with the heart and with the unfolding of awareness. Anusuya surrounds it with rings of paisley-like leaves and petals in crisp black fineliner, set against solid black, so the colour feels protected, like something precious kept at the core. Anusuya describes it as a piece about personal growth and inner transformation, and it is a gentle, encouraging choice for a personal space or for someone at the start of a new phase.
