About this artwork

An eight-petal star in golden yellow opens at the centre of a lace-like mandala worked in emerald green and black, its lobed outer edge finished with dark green fans.

The title borrows the idea of something being just right, and the piece is about balance. Green is the dominant colour, but it never overwhelms the fine black-and-white lace beneath it, and the yellow is used only where it matters: in the central star and in thin outlines that trace the overlapping circles.

Green is the colour of growth and renewal across Indian tradition, the colour of new leaves, of the tulsi in the courtyard and of mehendi on the hands. Paired with gold, it suggests a prosperity that is quiet rather than loud. The overlapping circles give the mandala a flower-like outline, and dots strung like pearls along their edges lend it the delicacy of fine jewellery. Anusuya speaks of stability and renewal, and the piece has exactly that steady, settled feel. It suits rooms with wood, plants and natural light.
