Intergalactic Golden Stipule

A stipule is the small leaf-like growth at the base of a stem, often the first green to appear. In this piece Anusuya scatters dozens of small gold petals in an S-shaped sweep across the mandala, from its dark centre out past the edge, like seeds or leaves carried on a galactic wind. Behind them, the black and gold rays turn the whole sheet into a burst of light.

Gold is the colour of the auspicious in Indian tradition, used on temple domes, festival lamps and wedding silks, while the mandala's black-and-white rings carry the stillness of night. Bringing them together creates a dramatic, high-contrast piece that merges the mystery of space with the grace of earthly blooms.
